Zionna Perez-Tucker named to Capital District Sports Women of the Year Class of 2022

ALBANY, NY — Zionna Perez-Tucker, a senior at Mohonasen High School, has been named as one of the 10 scholastic award recipients for 2022 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization.

Zionna, who competes in cross country and track and field, will be recognized at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala on Monday, August 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady. Ticket information is to be announced.

The Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes will be recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. More information is provided at the website: cdswoy.com.

Academically, Zionna posted a 3.3 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. She was the President of the Senior Class and served on the Student Council. She also serves the No Place for Hate initiative.

Athletically, Zionna set all-time records in Section 2 on the track in the 45 meter and 200-meter events. She is second all-time in the 300 meter and third all-time in Section 2 in the 55-meter and 60-meter. She holds five Mohonasen outdoor track school records and was the 2022 State Indoor Track Champion in both the 55 meter and 300-meter. Zionna placed seventh at the national indoor track meet in 2022 in the 55. She has the Section 2 outdoor record in the 45-meter and 200-meter races and earned a gold medal in the 100 at the New York State Federation meet/ She wrapped up her career with silver medals in the Division I 100, 200 and federation 200.

For her community service, Zionna has been involved with many volunteer organizations. She led Mohonasen in the Student Athletic Council that has visited elementary schools and the City Mission. She has worked with Toys for Tots, cancer awareness programs, and has also worked for a food pantry and anchor room when needed.

CDSWOY will announce the next student-athlete recipient on July 6. A total of 10 high school and three college female student-athletes will be honored.
